Chorus, an Eleusis-based non-profit cultural organisation, is proud to have been selected by the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam) and MitOst e.V. (Berlin) to take part in the Tandem Cultural Capitals programme, in response to an open call made by Eleusis 2021 / European Capital of Culture. The aim of the programme is to broaden the scope of the work of the selected organisations by collaborating with a cultural organisation of their choice based in one of the past and future European Capitals of Culture: Leeuwarden-Fryslan 2018, Galway 2020, Rijeka 2020, Novi Sad 2021, Kaunas 2022, Veszprem 2023, and Eleusis 2021.
During the first phase of the programme, 28 cultural professionals from the abovementioned European Capitals of Culture met in Rijeka, Croatia, in June with the aim of getting to know each other, choosing their “match”, and working with him/her on a pilot project which will empower themselves and their organisations professionally. During four particularly busy days, participants had the opportunity to take part in workshops and presentations on international collaboration skills and the European Capital of Culture institution, as well as in study visits with insights to the artistic programme of Rijeka 2020. Eleusis 2021 was represented and presented by Angeliki Lampiri, Director of Cultural Strategy.
This is where, our representative, Yannis Pappas, met and teamed up with Claudia Woolgar from the Leeuwarden-based Brave New World Producties. Claudia has run theatres, directed art festivals, and was one of the leading lights in delivering Leeuwarden’s programme as the European Capital of Culture 2018. They began in Rijeka and continue to Skype each other on a regular basis, in order to develop their collaborative project, which aims to raise public awareness of the environmental crisis and cultural heritage, and is temporarily titled “Green & Grey”.
In the next phase of the programme, which will take place in September and October, Claudia and Yannis will visit each other in order to get to know their cities and their people, become directly involved with each one’s daily work environment, and develop the idea of their collaborative project.
To be continued…
(Tandem Cultural Capitals is part of “Culture 2030” programme, which aims to train cultural professionals on the one hand and the regional networking of cultural organisations and professionals on the other. In this way, the city of Eleusis becomes a point of interconnection and acquisition of know-how in the modern cultural scene.)
